The History of KARL LAGERFELD
Born in Germany in 1933, at a young age, Karl Otto Lagerfeld moved to Paris to study art and history. It was here he first stepped into the world of fashion, becoming an assistant to the French designer and the founder of the fashion house Balmain, Pierre Balmain. This was the beginning of a lifelong career working for some of the fashion industry's most iconic brands. In 1964, he started designing for the fashion company Chloe, followed by the Italian fashion house Fendi in 1965 and then in 1983, becoming creative director of the house of Chanel. In 1984 he launched his namesake fashion house, KARL LAGERFELD. Initially, the brand focused on creating clothing and handbag collections for men and women, which soon expanded to footwear, eyewear, jewelry, watches and perfumes. Following the success of KARL LAGERFELD, he launched the kid's range in 2016, which has seen overwhelming success. Available for boys and girls aged 0 to 16 years, these clothes are playful, bold and on-trend, often featuring motifs of his beloved cat, Choupette, as well as the designer himself.
